VIDEO: 2017 College Football Predictions Week 6

For the last several years, Gary Patterson has done more with less than any college football coach in America. In other words, the disparity between the rankings of his recruiting and the success he has on Saturdays is as large as with any program in college football. But now that TCU has been in the Big 12 for a few years and as recruiting rankings become more accurate, is Coach P still the most efficient?

Our college football model only takes into account the sophomore and junior recruiting classes, using 247 composite rankings. I averaged those two classes, then compared them with where they stand in the latest AP Poll. Here are the results:

The closer a team appears in the upper-right corner, the more they've done with less. Intuitively, it makes sense mid-majors take the first three spots. The Power 5 school with the biggest disparity is Washington, a playoff team from a year ago. The next best is actually Oklahoma State, then TCU. Though the Cowboys rank slightly higher than the Horned Frogs, TCU did win that matchup a couple of weeks ago.
