Recently the "Outside the Box" crew traveled to Austin, Texas for the first weekend of SXSW, a conference billing itself that celebrates the convergence of the interactive, film and music industries. Specifically, we went to panel conversations devoted to sports, analytics and the media. When it comes to the future of basketball, all of us had strong opinions about the direction of the sport, the extensions to which fans are engaged and who's responsible for the growth of the game and the growth of players.

We have two new episodes of "Outside the Box" we are excited to share.

First, we speak with our producer who is a basketball coach at the younger levels about how he uses analytics, despite a lack of resources and data.

Second, the guys and I discuss momentum in a basketball game. Does it really exist, and how do you obtain it?

I am excited to be a part of a new basketball analytics podcast alongside Dan Dickey and Ryan Girardot called "Outside the Box". There is a lot of analytic research about basketball and even more data that may seem too overwhelming to be useful. We discuss what we have gleaned from our research and observations and hopefully offer better basketball insight in a way that is easier to understand for everybody, from the analytically minded to those who simply enjoy the highlights.
